The Olympic Forest

The Olympic Forest

Man.  It feels like it has been forever since I’ve taken a good instate road trip.  I’ve been grinding pretty hard on the job, so I figured I was due for a day off.  So, that gave me just enough time to sneak another road trip in.

The inspiration for the road trip was the movie Twilight.  Note, I’ve never actually seen this movie.  My sister has and asks me about it all the time since I live in Washington state.  So, combine that with a chance to get on highway 101 and pull off a lap around the Olympic Peninsula and you’ve got a great weekend!

On the way in I went North around the Olympic National Park.  I started a bit late in the day, so I didn’t take too many stops, but I did get a chance to stop at Lake Crescent.  I took a few shots, but me being me, I’m going with the car shot for this blog 🙂

The city of Forks itself was pretty chill.  The locals there were used to tourists asking about Twilight and were generally happy to oblige with good answers and sights to see.

The trip back was super fun.  I didn’t quite make it up to Cape Alava; the westernmost point of the contiguous 48 states.

I did make it to La Push which is still pretty far out there on the coast and an amazing beach.

I stopped off in the Hoh Rainforest for a quick hike around the Hall of Moss trail.

The drive around 101 was truly amazing.  I stopped a few more times to take in the sights and sounds; especially of the Pacific Ocean.

A great weekend indeed!
