Quick one. Growing up, I always heard about the cherry blossoms in D.C., but I don’t think I ever actually went. So, in my quest to be more of a D.C.-ite, I hopped into the city on a Saturday morning to finally check it out. My target: the Jefferson Memorial.

I lucked out. The weekend I chose happened to be the peak of the blooming. It was overcast but fairly warm — really nice, actually. It was kind of cool to see the whole district turn pink. Walking through the canopy of blossoms was beautiful, even if it was a bit overcrowded with all of us tourists. Overall, it was fun, but honestly, I don’t think I need to do it again. It’s happily checked off the list.

The Jefferson Memorial itself was impressive too. The view toward the Washington Monument is expansive and elegant. Having spent so much time over the past two years visiting historic sites in Europe, I noticed how much it mirrors the European art and architecture of that era — something I probably wouldn’t have picked up on before.

Last thought: in my excitement to see the cherry blossoms, I realized my own neighborhood has cherry blossoms too. Shout out to the homeowner’s association!
