The Canal Museum

An interesting discovery of mine in moving to London is that I really like canals! A body of water in an urban area makes for a relaxing, scenic, walk. Another interesting discovery of mine in moving to London is that the Brits have a museum for everything. So, when I realized that The Canal Museum was walking distance from my apartment, I added it to my TODO list and today I finally made it there.

Canals are manmade bodies of water. They are often created to connect rivers or as an efficient means of moving goods. Their heyday was in the late 1700s-1800s. As trains, planes, and trucks have surpassed them, in modern times canals have moved more towards the usage that I am familiar and happy with. The museum does a good job of covering the history, impact on the surrounding ecosystem, and seeks to fund the continued mainteance. It’s a relatively small museum, but a great way to spend a weekend morning. Plus, the museum is on a canal!!
